Director of International Development of the Institute of Global Health of Barcelona – ISGlobal
Leire Pajín Iraola is the Director of Global Development of the Institute of Global Health of Barcelona, ISGLobal. Holder of a degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in the Direction of Organisations in the Knowledge Economy, she has served as Special Advisor to the Pan American Health Organisation and Political Advisor of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in the Planning of the Post-2015 Development Agenda between the years 2012 and 2014. Previously, she was Minister of Health, Social Policy and Equality and headed the State Secretariat for Cooperation and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), under whose management the Spanish Cooperation Master Plan was approved (2005-2008), achieving a tripling of Official Development Assistance up to 0.5% of the Gross Domestic Product.
As Minister of Health, she promoted the Development in Research and Innovation of the pharmaceutical industry, the achievement of the General Health Law, the regulatory adaptation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to the United Nations Convention, the implementation of sanitary measures against the Law on Tobacco Consumption and the establishment of measures to reduce pharmaceutical expenditure.
